Style tips on what to wear for Hiking or Nature Walking

Yes, Nature Walking is an actual term. It simply refers to taking strolls into the wilderness and is treated as a great way to soothe one’s mind.

We recently went on a 2 day trip to Lonavala, Maharashtra to stay at a resort and do some team bonding. Clearly we weren’t going to do this adventurous hiking thing—climb rocks, follow trail signs of dangerous animals, identify plants (?)— but I still wanted to commit and dress the part. Haha.

Whether it is a full-fledged hiking or a simple stroll through the woods, protective clothing is a must. I a bona-fide-city-girl was definitely intrigued by the idea of putting together a bona-fide-hiking-girl outfit and I chose to be inspired by the athleisure trend that been around since mid-2016.

Boots, the most important element for a wild trip, these can actually be quite chic. In fact, I would go so far as to say that boots should be a staple in your wardrobe (now obviously fashion boots and hiking boots for actual mountain climbing are structurally and functionally different, so be wise when you choose). Mine here, are fashion boots in suede leather and are ideal only to talk a stroll into wilderness or for city side-walks, not for hiking (Sourced from Bata India).

Add some performance leggings (I am wearing active wear tights by Puma), a nice comfy tee and you have your outfit ready. If you want to take the fashion quotient up-a-notch then you can add fashion shorts (I am wearing distressed denim shorts by either H&M or Zara, can’t remember) or throw on a bandana. Bandanas are functional, to soak up the sweat, to prevent your neck from a chill or in summers you can soak your bandana in water from a river and use it as a cold compress.

Some other essentials you can carry for a tracking trip are:

  1. Polarized Sunglasses
  2. Layers, a wind-cheater or a waterproof jacket
  3. Water Bottle
  4. Music on your phone, and obviously a power bank if your day could be long

Heavy make-up, high heels or sleazy clothing definitely don’t cut the mark for such trips, so, be mind-full of the place you are going to, it’s always good to be prepared than be sorry.
